It's been called the "Golden Age of Television." And many people agree. What were some of the shows that you grew up with that have hit the top 5.  Here's a list of the top 5 television shows that were filmed in black and white. Feel free to share what some of your favorite television shows were when you were younger.

  1. I Love Lucy - This brilliant television program, produced by Desi Arnaz, was on television sets across the country from October 15, 1951 to May 6, 1957. It pioneered and revolutionized situation comedies as we now know them.
  2. Gunsmoke - From the Golden Age of Radio, originally starring William Conrad (1952 - 1961), to the Golden Age of Television, starring James Arness as Marshall Dillon. The television program ran from 1955 to 1975 - 20 seasons in all.
  3. The Jack Benny Program - The program was known for coming on "Sunday nights at Seven." The show had a seamless transition from radio to television in October of 1950.
  4. The Ed Sullivan Show - Ed Sullivan starred in his own "amateur hour" type program and was the first to highlight acts like the Beatles and Elvis Presley. He also had variety acts like Ventriloquist and juggler Senior Wences and puppet friends like Topo Gigio. The program ran from 1948 - 1971. It was a really great "shoe."
  5. Have Gun, Will Travel - This American Western ran on television from 1957 to 1963 on CBS.

There were other great television shows in the 1950's from The Twilight Zone, Leave It To Beaver and The Mickey Mouse Club.
