Three people escaped a house fire on Atlantic Drive early Wednesday without serious injury, according to City of Cheyenne spokesman Spokesman Scott Smith.

The fire was reported as little before 5 a.m., and firefighters arrived on the scene at 4:54 a.m. They found light smoke coming from the duplex at 4925 Atlantic Drive, and the three residents who lived in both units were already outside the building.

One of the people was evaluated for smoke inhalation, but refused offers to be taken to Cheyenne Regional Medical Center. Even though the fire was contained to the kitchen area of one of the residences, total damage from the fire was estimated at $30,000.

The people who lived in the duplex where the fire happened have been displaced and are getting help from the American Red Cross. The other unit didn't suffer much damage and the person who lives there wasn't forced to move out.
