The large crowds reported for many Cheyenne Frontier Days events may not have translated into a banner CFD for local merchants, according to Cheyenne Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Dale Steenbergen.

He says preliminary results of a survey sent out to chamber members seem to show this year's CFD business was ''just slightly below average". Although that result was based on only 40 or so survey responses, Steenbergen says it confirms what he heard from local businesses throughout CFD 2013.

Cheyenne Frontier Days officials reported large crowds for most events, including a new record for a CFD night show on Friday night. That performance by country star Jason Aldean drew 25,000 people, breaking the previous record of 23,763 set by George Strait in 2004.
