CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — The Wyoming Department of Transportation is considering raising the speed limit along more than 2,000 miles of the state's non-interstate highway system.

WYDOT recently finished the first phase of a study to find which roadways could be eligible for a new state law that allows speed limits on non-interstate highways to be raised to 70 mph.

The report found that more than 2,300 miles of the 6,400-mile system warrant additional study.

A WYDOT spokesman says highways will stick to 65 mph for a while, as the study will take years to complete.

Officials will present the first phase of its study to the Legislature's Joint Transportation, Highway and Military Affairs Interim Committee on Thursday.
