YouTube

Leon Russell, 2011 inductee to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, will be playing a concert at Laramie’s Gryphon Theatre this August.

The Gryphon says that Leon led the famous Joe Cocker’s Mad Dogs & Englishmen tour as well as performing with George Harrison at the Concert for Bangladesh.  He has toured with the likes of Sir Elton John, Edgar Winter, Willie Nelson, The New Grass Revival and more.

Russell’s songwriting credits include A Song For You, Delta Lady, Hummingbird, Back To the Island, This Masquerade, Tight Rope and Lady Blue.

According to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame website, Russell is also known for having been a music entrepreneur, having launched the careers of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Phoebe Snow and Dwight Tilley.  The website further recognizes Russell as being one of the best interpreters of Bob Dylans work, and points out that Russell collaborated with Dylan in the 70s.

Russell was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2011, the same year that a 16-track compilation Best-Of album was released of Russell’s work.

Leon Russell will play the Gryphon Theatre August 6th at 8 pm, doors open at 7 pm.  Tickets will go on sale Friday, May 17th, at 1 pm.  Tickets are $32.50 in advance and $35 on the day of the show.
