The Cheyenne Ice and Events Center is hosting their annual Chicken Curling tournament this month and PETA is urging the city to use vegan roasts instead of frozen chickens.

People For The Ethical Treatment of Animals president and co-founder Ingrid Newkirk sent a letter to Cheyenne city officials today, offering to provide meatless roasts for the event.

"Chickens feel pain and fear just as dogs, cats and humans do," Newkirk wrote. "Such suffering has no place in a fun family event and PETA is eager to help Cheyenne's curling tournament organizers come around to the idea of using frozen vegan roasts that no one had to die for."

The City of Cheyenne and the Cheyenne Ice and Events Center have yet to respond to PETA's request. Now entering its fifth year, the tournament is scheduled to take place on Saturday, March 24th. The event is one of several curling tournaments across the country to feature frozen chickens and turkeys.
