Battle Highway (WYO 70) Clearing Delayed by Slide
Wyoming Department of Transportation officials say Battle Highway (Wyo. 70) east of Baggs has slid out. About 300 feet of roadway dropped 15 feet.
The area is located above the road closure gate just west of the overlook at mile post 30. WYDOT will send a team of geology experts to assess the damage and determine timing and steps to repair the road. Ongoing slides in other areas of the state may delay their arrival until later in the week. WYDOT spokesman Ross Doman says snow removal operations on the highway will begin as soon as Snowy Range Road Wyo. 130 is clear. It is yet undetermined if a temporary detour is possible around the destroyed section of Wyo. 70. If not, it is likely that the opening of the entire length of the highway will not occur for two to four months. An alternate route from Rawlins up the mountain will be via the unpaved Sage Creek Road Wyo. 71 south to Wyo. 70.
