Unofficial results show Laramie County voters have approved seven of nine proposed sixth-penny projects.

Propositions 1, 2, 4 and 8 narrowly passed, while Propositions 3, 5 and 9 passed by wide margins.

Proposition 1, which calls for a $9 million remodel and expansion at the existing courthouse and $9 million to be used for the construction of a new municipal court passed by just 0.72 percent.

Because the difference between votes “for the tax” and “against the tax” was less than one percent, the Laramie County Clerk’s Office will conduct an automatic recount tomorrow (Wednesday) morning.

New fire stations and a railroad overpass on Christensen Road are among several projects Laramie County residents will see in the coming years, after voters approved the sixth-penny projects during a special election Tuesday.

Absentee ballots have yet to be tallied, but it appears Propositions 3, 5 and 9 will pass.

Proposition 3 calls for the collection of $15 million to construct Christensen Road between Commerce Circle and U.S. Highway 30, including a new bridge over the Union Pacific Railroad.

Propositions 5 and 9 call for, among other projects, the collection of $2 million each for the construction of new fire stations at the Archer Complex and near the intersection of Interstate 25 and Iron Mountain Road.

Local businesses will start collecting the one percent specific purpose sales and use tax in October.
