Meteorologist Predicts Near-Average Winter

Cheyenne-based meteorologist Don Day says early indications are that southeastern Wyoming can expect fairly average weather conditions for the upcoming winter season. Day, the founder of Dayweather Inc. says it looks like there will be a prevailing El Nino weather system over the winter months, which would point to less wind but slightly more snow and colder temperatures than has been the case in the area over the past couple of winters, when a La Nina system was dominant. Day says overall the winter outlook is for weather close to historical averages. That’s in contrast to a record warm summer in the area. Day says an exceptionally warm June pushed the overall summer averages up, with July and especially August only slightly warmer than average. Day says the hot summer has no bearing at all on what can be expected in terms of winter weather in the area.
