Mayor Marian Orr posted the following note on her Facebook page Sunday night:

Cheyenne family and friends -

I have been notified that temperatures for Cheyenne on New Year's Eve are expected to be between 0 and -5 degrees with windchill of 15 to 20 below zero. (Winds are forecast to be between 10mph - 15mph.)

While we pride ourselves in being a hearty bunch, temperatures such as these are dangerous. In consideration of our community, event workers, and event volunteers, we are monitoring this weather situation and will determine by 10am tomorrow (Dec 31) if a cancellation of the midnight ball drop is necessary.

Please know that family events at 6pm inside the Depot on Dec 31st remain as scheduled. Again, we will make the determination by 10am Dec 31 in consideration of updated information we will receive from the National Weather Service in the morning.

Your safety is paramount -

Marian Orr, Mayor
