A man accused of shooting and wounding his daughter’s boyfriend outside of a Cheyenne trailer house in May has pleaded not guilty to two counts of attempted first-degree murder and two counts of aggravated assault.

Fifty-nine-year-old Charles Hopkins entered the plea during his arraignment Friday morning in Laramie County District Court.

According to court documents, Laramie County deputies were called to 909 W. College Drive #F around 9:50 p.m. on May 12 after receiving reports of gun shots.

Hopkins’ daughter told deputies that her father, who was staying in a shed on the property, shot Nicholas Johnson after the two got into an argument over a vehicle.

Johnson suffered a gunshot wound to his torso which caused severe damage to his kidney, intestine and spine and left him paralyzed from the waist down.

Deputies found Hopkins the following day unconscious in a nearby ditch with a loaded handgun that matched the spent shells found at the shooting scene.

Hopkins remains jailed on a $20,000 cash bond. His trial is set for December 11.
