Legislative Leaders Address Session [AUDIO]

Legislative Leaders talk about session (Amy Richards/TSM)

Several Wyoming legislative leaders decried what they said were rude and threatening tactics by supporters of certain bills in the legislative session that wrapped up this week.Senate President Tony Ross said while he would rather discuss all of the good things the legislature did this session, he felt it necessary instead to express his concern that Wyoming’s legislative process was under attack this year.by certain special interest groups.

When legislators receive death threats to themselves or to their families, it’s time for civility….

House Speaker Representative Tom Lubnau said that it seemed that certain interest groups tried to influence legislation by attacking lawmakers personally.

The legislative process is a reflection of the state of Wyoming.. and when certain interest groups place themselves as judge, jury and executioner on bills…

Senate Minority Floor Leader, Senator Chris Rothfuss, said while he wasn’t happy with everything that happened during the session the process works. he adds that the minority and majority parties are united in saying that the tactics that were used this session won’t be tolerated.

When we have individuals outside that process…trying to create divisiveness…where people will be voted out of office if they try to compromise…

House Minority Whip, Representative Jim Byrd, said the legislature works best when they work together.

We work across the isle all the time, in this state compromise is not a dirty word….
