In all the buying and wrapping, no doubt you have wondered if it is alright to wrap a gift that someone gave you as a re-gift. Here are some things to consider before you do. Believe it or not, it has been said that 3 out of 4 American's find it acceptable to take a gift you received and give it to someone as a re-gift. Today on the Top 5 at 7:45, I'll highlight some of the 'rules' that you ought to consider before you re-gift.

  1. Don't Re-Gift With Immediate Family - When it comes to your parents and siblings, you may want to skip this, especially if the gift was given by a family member.
  2. Be Mindful Of Your Social Settings - You can get yourself in a bit of trouble if you re-gift with people of your same social setting. So if the Secret Santa got you a bad present, you should not give it to someone at this years Christmas party.
  3. Time Lapse - It's probably not a good idea to have a quick turn around with the re-gift. If you just got it a month ago, hang on to it as you might be asked how you like it by the recent gift giver.
  4. Make Sure It's Just Right - Don't just give it to someone just because you hate it. They might hate it too. You must ensure that it is the right gift for the right person with the right intentions.
  5. Ensure It's Not Something You'll Regret - You may find out that you wished you had kept the gift instead of giving it away as a re-gift. That would be a real bummer.
