The City of Cheyenne Board of Public Utilities has begun the month-long process of flushing out the city's 2800 fire hydrants, according to BOPU spokesman Clint Bassett. He says that while the process is on-going residents shouldn't be alarmed if they see water running down the street. Bassett also says that some residents may notice a rusty discoloration in their tap water. He says even though the water may have an unusual color it is safe to drink and cook with. Bassett says people can avoid the discolored water by avoiding using hot water and by running their tap for a few minutes to flush out the discolored water. Bassett says residents of the western part of the city may notice discoloration first, as that portion of Cheyenne will be the first area where the hydrant flushing process is implemented.
