State Superintendent of Public Instruction Cindy Hill says a small but powerful group of veteran legislators whom she refers to as ''the good old boys" are trying to find a way to force her out of office, possibly by making it an appointed rather than elected position. Hill did not name any specific lawmakers as members of the group, but says they are forcing the state Education Department to be subjected to unnecessary audits with the primary goal of finding a reason to remove her. Hill says most people in state government are afraid of the group because they will "do things that are not very nice" when challenged. Hill says most state legislators are not included in the group, but says the ''good old boys'' do have undue influence.
