Emergency Kit Cook-Off Spreads Message Of Preparedness
Preparedness is an important principle to promote. Tornadoes, floods, and even winter storms can leave families without the means to provide for themselves for days.
It is the goal of the Wyoming Citizen Corps Council to educate Wyoming residents on steps they can take to ensure they will be better prepared.
The Wyoming Citizen Corps Council and the Wyoming Office of Homeland Security will host an emergency kit cook-off to spread the preparedness message in a fun and entertaining way (If you have ever watched the television show Chopped, you will understand this concept).
Three cooks will prepare an appetizer, entree, and dessert for the judges. The catch? They can only use the ingredients provided – which will be taken from a three-day emergency kit.
The event is open to the public, and will also feature an emergency preparedness fair. It will be held at the Buckle Club on May 10 from noon to 5 p.m. The cook-off will begin at 1 p.m.
Each dish will be judged and overall 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place prizes will be awarded. The prizes will be cash donations from a sponsor to the winner's choice of charity specializing in preparedness (ie: Red Cross, Salvation Army, etc.).
The sponsorships will be as follows:
First Prize: $1,000 and up
Second Prize: $500 - $1,000
Third Prize: $100 - $500
