Men’s Career Closet Helps the Unemployed Secure Jobs

CHEYENNE – Today, the Wyoming Department of Workforce Services (DWS) announced the opening of “Beyond the Rack,” a nonprofit organization that provides men in the community appropriate attire for interviews and prepares them for the first full week of employment.

Beyond the Rack was founded in 2012 by the Wyoming Discovery 9 Team (D9), a pilot program initiated in Cheyenne by the Wyoming Department of Workforce Services.

“Beyond the Rack is an innovative and creative outcome of the Department of Workforce Services’s Discovery 9 Team,” said Director of the Wyoming Department of Workforce Services Joan Evans. “These team members surveyed the needs of the Cheyenne community and determined that many unemployed men in Wyoming do not have access to quality workplace attire – and proper apparel could mean the difference between securing a job or not. Beyond the Rack is a resourceful solution that addresses fundamental needs in our community.”

D9 seeks to create opportunities for unemployed individuals and businesses by developing creative solutions to address economic development challenges. D9 was modeled after a program first founded in Grand Junction, Colorado in 2011. Wyoming’s current D9 board members consist of a diverse group of seven unemployed or underemployed individuals and two DWS Workforce Specialists.
