The Morning Zone: DHS, The Mayor and Police Chief

Border Patrol officer pats down Mexican woman before sending her back home_

7:07AM MST: Law Enforcement expert and columnist, Jim Kouri is back and will talk with Dave about his latest column. President Barack Obama and Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano applauded the latest  U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) report that claims an increase in illegal drug seizures and a decrease in illegal border-crossers in fiscal year 2011. CPB claims in a press statement that these results are due to one of the largest increased in manpower and resources along the country’s borders. However, members of the Border Patrol agents’ union — the National Border Patrol Council — say the report is misleading and that the increase in drug seizures actually means the Mexican cartels are more active and smuggling more drugs into the U.S.

7:37AM MST: Mayor Rick Kaysen joins Dave and will update us on the latest developments on the most pressing city issues including the City’s attempt to negotiate a new lease with Safehouse, the use of ‘Eminent Domain’ to obtain the property from Blockbust Video for the new roundabout, and the latest on the finalization of the Menards eeal, as well as the possibility of awind farm being developed on the Belvoir Ranch. He will also talk about the progress on the 6th penny ballot issues.

8:07AM MST: Cheyenne Police Chief Brian Kozak joins us. He will talk about the strengthened enforcement on impaired drivers over the Holidays, his updated position on a new police/public safety building appearing on the 6th Penny ballot.
