Dark Web Predator Sentenced: Details Of Cheyenne Child Porn Case

A 29-year-old Cheyenne man has been sentenced to 60 years in prison for producing and possessing child pornography.

A new release from the Wyoming U.S. Attorney's Office says U.S. District Judge Scott Skavdahl handed down the sentence on Wednesday.

Cody Foster had been indicted on six counts of producing child pornography and one count of possession in September. He pleaded guilty to the charges on Oct. 30, 2023.

The Case Began In August

The release says the case began on August 8, 2023, when the FBI's Cheyenne Office was notified by the agency's Rescue Me/Endangered Child Alert program about some newly produced child porn on the dark web and a potential victim in Cheyenne. The FBI and the Wyoming Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force launched a joint investigation based on the information.

According to the release, Foster had been a trusted friend of the child's mother and used that relationship to gain access to the young child victim. The release says a search of Foster's home and devices ''uncovered hundreds of images and videos of child pornography, including depictions of sadomasochistic activity involving infants and toddlers." 

According to the release, Foster was identifiable in some videos due to a distinctive tattoo on his wrist.

Foster was arrested within 24 hours of receiving the tip.

Family Of Victim Offers Statement

The family of the victim released a statement which reads in part:

''When we think of monsters, we think of the ones in the movies, hiding in the shadows, and under our beds. We don’t think about the ones that could be in our close friend group. In August of last year, someone our family and many others loved and trusted was revealed as one of those monsters. The mask of Cody Lee Foster had fallen off, revealing the monster he truly is. Today, the entire world will know the disgusting person, and the monster that was hidden beneath his smile."

As a family, we believe there is no punishment harsh enough to equate with the damage, trauma and pain Cody Lee Foster has caused, let alone the suffering he inflicted on our child. Today, we know that justice has been served and we can sleep better and safer knowing that Cody Lee Foster will never be able to hurt another child or family again.''
