Cheyenne Frontier Days announced today that President and Chief Executive Officer Dan Cheney has submitted his resignation effective September 26 and accepted the position of Chief Operating Officer with the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.

The Cheyenne Frontier Days Board of Directors named Darin Westby interim CEO. Westby is the Chief Operating Officer and the current General Chairman of the Cheyenne Frontier Days General Committee. Cheney just completed his fifth show as President and CEO, a run in which rodeo attendance and concert crowds increased over the past five-years at the World’s Largest Outdoor Rodeo and Western Celebration.

Cheney in a news release said the is "excited about this opportunity with the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo” but added “I will miss my home state of Wyoming and all of the people and especially the 2,300 volunteers who work tirelessly year-round that make CFD so special."

Bill Hill, Chairman of the Cheyenne Frontier Days Board of Directors, said they did everything they could to keep Cheney in Cheyenne. He said the board expects to begin soliciting and interviewing candidates for the new CEO immediately.
