The Cheyenne VA Medical Center will host a Sexual Assault Awareness program on Thursday, April 24, from 3–5 p.m. in the hospital auditorium.

Community organizations, veterans and individuals that support or desire information on Military Sexual Trauma (MST) are invited to attend the event which will highlight support and resources for MST survivors.

Candise Leininger, Wyoming Army National Guard Director of Psychological Health will speak on “A Spa Treatment for your mind.” Valine Demos, a survivor active in bringing awareness through the documentary “The Invisible War,” will discuss the effects of MST.

Debra Harrington, LCSW and Cheyenne VA MST Coordinator said “sexual assault has occurred in every era of the military and is becoming the focus of legislatures who want to change the culture of injustice and victimization.”

According to a news release, handwritten notes of support that hang on a line symbolizing a bridge from victim to victory will also be on display.
