The Cheyenne Office of the National Weather Service is warning about deteriorating weather conditions stemming from a winter storm that is rocking the region.

The agency posted the following slightly before noon on Friday:

Snow is beginning to increase in coverage across the area. Moderate to heavy snow will be possible later this afternoon and into the evening. Snow will create areas of reduced visibility and create slick conditions! Use caution if traveling!

At the last report, Interstate 25 was closed between Cheyenne and Wheatland. Interstate 80 was open, but much of it across Wyoming was reporting wet, slick conditions.

Nicer Weather Expected This Weekend

The good news is that the weather should improve starting on Saturday:

"Snow will be the word Friday across much of the area. We have a cold front that has moved into the area from the north. This front will likely be located along the Interstate 80 Corridor Friday, bringing fairly widespread snow to many areas. Winter Storm Warnings and Winter Weather Advisories are in effect for many locations across southeast Wyoming and Nebraska Panhandle tonight through Friday. This front will push south into Colorado tomorrow afternoon and evening, with snow ending from north to south. A pretty nice day expected Saturday with clearing skies and warming temperatures. Strong winds expected Sunday for the wind prone areas of southeast Wyoming. Increasing clouds expected through the day Sunday."
