The Cheyenne City Council is slated to consider a development agreement with the Children's Museum of Cheyenne on Monday.

The council Finance Committee last Monday voted to recommend approval of the agreement, which would allow plans to locate the museum in the downtown property commonly known as "the hole" to move ahead.

The museum group already owns 3/4 of that property, with the city owning the balance of about 22 feet. Under the proposed development agreement the city would control the entire property for about four years to help get state money for the project.

The four year period would also allow for construction of the building, after which the museum could purchase the property for $100. City officials have been trying to find a use for the "the hole", widely considered an eyesore in downtown Cheyenne, for several years.

The property was once home to a bake shop which was destroyed by a fire over a decade ago. It has been vacant ever since.
