After shifting gears, the City of Cheyenne is rolling forward with a bike lane project they feel best meets the needs of the community.

Mayor Rick Kaysen says the city has decided to preserve off-street parking for residents living along Carey Avenue between West Pershing Boulevard and Eighth Avenue.

“We did listen, we did pay attention to the concerns that we heard from the residents along the Carey Avenue corridor,” said Kaysen. ”One of the primary concerns we did hear specifically from the folks in the Carey Avenue corridor was the elimination or restrictions in certain areas of parking.”

Kaysen says the center lane of Carey will remain the same as it was prior to the project.

“There’s not going to be any dimension changes from one side of the street to the other,” said Kaysen. ”What we’ve been able to do then is to incorporate on either side of the street in a northbound or a southbound direction a single lane or a single stripe of paint that’ll be approximately 11 feet from the sidewalk that will certainly accommodate not only parked vehicles, but also bicycles that will be able to go up and down Carey, to and from downtown, to Lions Park or anywhere in those different areas.”

Weather permitting, Kaysen expects the contractor to be done with the project sometime next week.
