A Good Start For Wyoming Cowboys Fall Camp

Day one of fall camp left a good impression on coaches and players, as the Wyoming Cowboys opened practice Monday morning with a non-contact session.

Even Wyoming head coach Craig Bohl said,

“The guys had a better understanding of what our systems were. We still had miscues; couple of snaps on the ground, some guys jump, or some guy misaligned, but much further along than where we were.”

Bohl went on to say they’re nowhere near where they need to be, but they’ve made good progress.

The starting quarterback at this point is senior Colby Kirkegaard. He said the coaches told the players, they had to be better at the start of fall camp than on the last day of spring.

“What we took upon ourselves is we had player practices four times a week. We didn’t have the coaches out there, but we had the scripts, and we had all the different drills we would’ve ran in a regular practice.”

Thus the first day went pretty good according to Kirkegaard.

“Obviously, you’ve got some bumps and some mistakes, but I think we’re starting to get it. I think it’s a little clearer this time around.”

Junior defensive end Eddie Yarbrough though day one went well.

“Of course we had a couple of mental mistakes, and nicks and crannies to work out, but overall I feel like we had a pretty good first day, as far as like running to the ball and knowing your assignment.”

In the second practice today, Wyoming held another non-contact session in helmets only.

The Cowboys will wear should pads for the first time tomorrow and Thursday. Friday is the first practice in full pads, while Saturday marks the first two-a-day practice.

The first 30 minutes of practice is open to the media and public, but closed after that.
