It has been said that debt is our worst enemy. When a person is in consumer debt, it weighs on your heart and mind like a big tanker. Here's some ways to kill it.  We know first hand that it's easier to get into debt, and much harder to get out. One of the things we need to avoid is the mindset that all of this debt is the "new normal." Check out these ways to put your debt to death, once and for all.

  1. Today Is The Day To Take Action - Don't wait any longer. For every day that goes by, that debt grows bigger and bigger. Take a debt, pay it off and then take that money that you've budgeted for that bill to the next bill and so on and so on, until you're out of debt.
  2. Don't Isolate Yourself - You are not alone in this. There are many, many people that are in gross consumer debt. Surround yourself with those who have been in debt and who have gotten out of it. They will encourage you and coach you through to your success.
  3. Track Every Penny - I took this challenge years ago and tracked every penny for one month. It's amazing how this will show you were the "cracks" are that are sucking your unaccounted for, cash. Track your finances like you would calories when losing weight. It is eye-opening, educational and will help you stay on track.
  4. Discipline Yourself - You must have drive and motivation, but unless you discipline yourself, you'll remain in debt. Just like diet or an exercise program, you must adopt a debt-free plan that you know you like and can stick to. What has worked for someone else, may not work for you. Discipline yourself to start putting that debt in the ground.....for good. Remember habits are formed, whether good or bad. Now is the time to be determined to leave the bad spending habits and start developing good saving habits that will get you to financial success.
  5. Attitude Determines Your Altitude - This is what they teach potential pilots in flight school and it is true in life. Think about your life being debt free without the bad attitude that says, "This is the way it is." It doesn't have to be, however you'll be the one to determine that.
