The joys of our upbringing and all of the potential dangers that awaited us, if one wrong move was executed. How did we manage to survive those thrilling days of yesteryear?   From time to time we reminisce about our youth and all of the fun we had. What we were allowed to do and the fun we had, finds no place at all with our youth today. As a matter of fact, a parent might be labeled "bad parent" if they were to allow what our parents did.

Today, we'll look at 5 things that we did as kids that most parents today would probably not allow. Or if they did, you might end up becoming a ward of the state or they'd end up in prison.

  1. Swing Sets - Swinging and playing on an old, rusty swing set. I remember swinging so high that one of the legs of the set was popping out of the ground, as if it would lift off and then come back down with a thud.
  2. Staying in the Car - When your mom would go grocery shopping for an hour and you would stay in the car because you didn't feel like going in. Now days, some zealot would break the car window in, pull you out and then call the police.
  3. No Seat Belts - Who needed a seat belt? It was more fun hopping and rolling around on the back seat while the car was in motion. One girl remembers lying across the back windshield of her mother's Ford Mercury while cruising down the road.
  4. Baby Sitting 101 - I didn't matter if you were 11 or 10 years old, as long as you could dial 9-1-1, you were a qualified sitter. And training? What training?
  5. 50/ 50 Air Rule - Back in the day, everybody from your aunt, dad and even grandma all smoked in the house. That gave you a ratio of 50% smoke and 50% oxygen. There was no smoke free. No wonder every thing stunk so bad.

What are things that you did as kids, that you wouldn't even think about doing with your kids today? Tell us in the comment section below.
