This weekend will be the last for visitors driving through Yellowstone National Park before it starts preparations for the winter season beginning 8 a.m. Monday, according to a news release Wednesday.

Most roads, and the West, South, and East entrances will close so the park can prepare them for the winter season and snowmobile and snowcoach travel, which begins Saturday, Dec. 15.

However, the road from the North entrance at Gardiner, Mont., to Mammoth Hot Springs in the park will remain open.

The road to the nearby of communities of Cooke City and Silver Gate, Mont., is open all year, weather permitting. Travel east of Cooke City on the Beartooth Highway is not possible from late fall to late spring.

If you plan to drive to and in the park during the fall and winter, please have flexible travel plans and prepare for changing weather conditions.

Temporary travel restrictions or closures can occur at any time without notice. Visit Park Roads for road status. Receive road alerts on your mobile phone, text "82190" to 888-777, and an automatic text reply will confirm receipt and provide instructions.

Go to the park’s website to plan for a winter visit, including information about lodging, camping, services, and activities.
