Wyoming Treasurer Files Lawsuit Over Capitol Project
Wyoming State Treasurer Mark Gordon has filed a lawsuit against the group charged with overseeing the Capitol Square Project, commonly known as the capitol reconstruction project.
The suit against the Capitol Building Rehabilitation and Restoration Oversight Group was filed in Laramie County District Court on May 16.
It claims the state treasurer was wrongfully excluded from the legislation authorizing the project and that the contracts awarded for the project needed to be approved by the treasurer. The suit claims both actions were a violation of the Wyoming Constitution, specifically citing Article 3 section 31 of the constitution. That section says contracts for repairing and furnishing "the halls and rooms" of the capitol must be approved by the governor and the treasurer.
Gordon says he isn't trying to stop the project, but instead wants clarification on the proper role of the treasurer's office in the project.
