When it comes to math and science, Wyoming students are some of the best and brightest in the world.

Data released by the National Center for Educational Statistics ranked the Cowboy State first in the western states and eighth in the world for math. Wyoming also tied for number two in the world in science, behind Finland.

“Wyoming has invested in small class sizes, which result in more one-on-one, student-teacher interaction," said Wyoming Education Association President Kathy Vetter. "The results are obviously paying off."

Vetter says the data shows now is not the time to increase class sizes or cut educational funding.

"The legislature has supported a strong education in Wyoming in the past and we are confident they will continue to make education a priority in the future," said Vetter.
