Wildlife Officials Studying Mule Deer Herd

CASPER, Wyo. (AP) — Wildlife officials are forming a group to discuss and make recommendations for the management of a popular mule deer herd near the Colorado-Wyoming border.

The Casper Star-Tribune reports the herd near Baggs is one of the most popular for both resident and nonresident hunters in Wyoming, receiving nearly 10,000 hunter use days each year. The area continues to experience extreme weather conditions and human activity that has slowed population growth.

The Wyoming Game and Fish Department will hold two public meetings for anyone interested in the herd. The first is scheduled for 7 p.m. on July 9 at the Valley Community Center in Baggs. The second will be held at 7 p.m. on July 10 at the Bureau of Land Management Field Office building in Rawlins.
