Before you take your time to see your tax preparer, there are some things that you should do before you walk into the office of the one that is going to get you a nice return.  Today on the Top 5 at 7:45, I'll highlight at least five things that you should prepare before you see your professional tax preparer.

  1. Take Last Year's Return - Your tax accountant will need some information from last year which will help this to help you this year.
  2. Wages Statement - Take the W-2 that you get from your employer or employers from the following year when you go to meet your tax accountant.
  3. Interest and Dividend Income - This comes from your financial and investment institutions in the way of Form 1099. Make sure you pack this along.
  4. Other Forms of Income - What other money did you make last year? This would be social security income, unemployment income and partnership incomes.
  5. Gains and Loses - Did you sell any of your investments last year? Bring proof of additional gains and loses to your tax preparer.

The Top 5 at 7:45 airs weekdays with me, Gary Freeman and sponsored by First Education Federal Credit Union.
