Proper water drainage for any and all plants and trees are very important for longevity and the over health of the plant. Here's a great way to accomplish just that.  How many times have you received a package from someone that had those white, green or read packaging peanuts? Even though they may be a pain to pick up and throw out, you can use them the next time you put flowers in your planter.

As with any plant, proper drainage is the name of the game. If the water drains to fast, it can affect good growth of your plant as well as if there is no drainage at all. Packaging popcorn has some great advantages, such as:

  • Less expensive than potting soil
  • Good drainage
  • Easy to install
  • Lighter, to make it easier to move the pot

Place the foam popcorn in the bottom of the planter and then place landscape over the top of them, so that the soil doesn't sink to the bottom of the pot. Then add potting soil, along with the desired flower or plant, and you're done.

This is a great way to save a few bucks, make transporting lighter and easier and for the over all health of the plant. Tell us how this worked out for you in the comment section below. Happy planting!
