With midterm elections fast approaching, WalletHub ranked the 50 states and the District of Columbia based on their levels of political engagement.

Wallethub examined each state and the District across six key metrics, ranging from the percentage of registered voters in the 2012 presidential election to the total political contributions per adult population. The top state for political involvement was Massachusetts, while the bottom state was West Virginia.

Wyoming was tied for 34th with Ohio. Colorado was ranked the second most politically engaged state. Montana was ranked #9, North Dakota #19 and South Dakota #22, Nebraska #41 and Utah #47.
