Authorities in southwest Wyoming are investigating a number of improvised bombs that were found in an abandoned car Friday afternoon, according to a spokesman for the Sweetwater County Sheriff's Department.

Dick Blust says the Uinta County Sheriff's Department called on the Sweetwater County bomb squad after finding an abandoned car where an improvised chemical pressure had been exploded.

A second unexploded bomb was found inside the vehicle. The remains of several more exploded bombs were found outside the car, as well as three more unexploded devices.  A chemical pressure bomb is usually made using a flimsy container, such as a soda bottle, a caustic liquid, such as a toilet or drain cleaner is poured into the bottle, and other substances react with that material to cause an explosion.

Blust says chemical pressure bombs are especially dangerous because they are highly unpredictable. When they explode they spew out hydrochloric acid, which is corrosive to the eyes, skin and mucous membranes.

The acid can cause severe respiratory tract irritation and pulmonary edema. In Friday's incident, the bomb squad was able to safely detonate the unexploded bombs and no one was injured. But Blust is warning people who may find such bombs that they shouldn't touch the devices under any circumstances.

The Sweetwater Bomb Squad includes members of the Sweetwater County Sheriff's Department as well as the Rock Springs and Green River Police Departments
