The Winner Of The Wyoming Spelling Bee Is…
Congratulations to Jackie Meador of Marbleton, Wyo for winning the Wyoming State Spelling Bee and moving on to the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington D.C.
75 students from 17 different counties throughout the state competed at Western Wyoming Community College to see who can spell the best in the state. There were 32 rounds with 214 words used. Once it got down to the final two students, they had to go through another 17 rounds in order to crown the student who can spell the best in Wyoming. Jackie Meador was the overall winner but Paschall McDaniel from Jackson came in second and Lily Hitchcock from Lander placed third. Both students received a gift basket full of educational games and supplies, plus a bit of money as well.
“In the past five years of my affiliation with the Wyoming State Spelling Bee, I have watched many of the contestants – including this year’s winner – growing up and maturing as spellers,” Kimberly Farley, Vice President for Student Learning at Western told Sweetwater Now. “Jackie Meador will be a terrific representative for Wyoming as he participates in the Scripps National Spelling Bee in May.”
The Scripps National Spelling Bee will start on Sunday, May 26th and end on Friday, May 31st. We will keep you posted as to how Jackie does in the competition.
