From a bar of soap to a mangled man that got in a motorcycle wreck, all types of costumes were seen at the 2011 Boo Ball on Saturday, October 22nd at the Holiday Inn. This annual fundraiser benefits the “Beautifying the Community of Cheyenne” project. The Greater Cheyenne Chamber of Commerce Leadership Class of 2011 presented the dinner, costume party/contest and silent auction. This year, the class will use the proceeds on the restoration of the historic Art Deco Fountain by the airport.

The evening started with "costume watching" and cocktails. After checking out the costume competition we enjoyed dinner, catered by the Holiday Inn, while being entertained by the Cheyenne Little Theatre’s performance of Time Warp from the Rocky Horror Picture Show. During this time, the silent auction was taking place and the costume contest was prepping to begin.

Yours truly was lucky enough to be a judge this year for the costume contest. Talk about pressure! I have never seen so many amazing costumes in my life. How was I ever going to help pick the top three in each category? The categories were as follows with the winner in parentheses: Best Female (man dressed as a ballerina), Best Male (blue martian), Best Couple (white zombie southerners), Best Group (Alice in Wonderland characters), Scariest (man who got in a motorcycle accident) and the Most Original (bar of soap and a loofa). I can assure you, the winners of each category did not disappoint.

Then, the amazing Boogie Machine Band hit the stage sporting humongous afros. As always, they put on an electrifying performance, playing the likes of “Super Freak”, “We are Family”, “Kung Fu Fighting”, “Play That Funky Music” and many other classic tunes. Everyone danced the night away!

All in all, the Boo Ball was a great event this year. Thank you to all of the sponsors who made the event happen. If you weren’t able to make it this year, you won’t want to miss it next year, as it is sure to be another mind-blowing event!
