Here it is the last Friday of the month which, for many people, is the day known as Arbor Day. Arbor Day was established on April 10, 1872 to encourage us to plant a tree.

Cheyenne Light, Fuel & Power is distributing approximately 600 free trees, one per household, to customers who reserve one beginning today.

It's the time of year that people of Cheyenne wanting to start planting. They plant everything from shrubs, vegetables, plants and trees. Today at the top 5 at 7:47, I highlight the top 5 trees that you could consider planting in the region.

Mayor Rick Kaysen said that while Cheyenne reportedly had about a dozen trees when it was founded, it now has over 250,000.

According to historians, Arbor Day was first placed on April 10, 1872 in Nebraska. It was from the vision of Julius Sterling Morton (1832-1902) who was a Nebraska journalist and politician originally from the state of Michigan.

Several community groups have raised around $165, 000 for trees in Lion's Park as well as other areas of Cheyenne, according to Visit Cheyenne CEO  Darren Rudloff.
