Lawmakers have already held an eight-day virtual session in Cheyenne as well as numerous committee meetings, but most of the high-profile bills lie ahead.

The 2021 Session is a General Session, which means that bills on any topic can be introduced without needing a 2/3 majority.

A fiscal note attached to the bill estimated it would save Wyoming a little over $500,000 per year, or a little over $42,000 per month if implemented.

The legislature is scheduled to reconvene on March 1 in Cheyenne.

Under Senate File 86, the attorney general would join the governor, treasurer, secretary of state, auditor, and superintendent of public instruction as a statewide elected office.

The bill would cap property tax increases at three percent per year.

Supporters of a pay increase note the five statewide officials have not had a pay increase in almost 20 years.

A proposed pay increase would give the governor a raise of about two-thirds per year, with increases of a little over 60 percent for other state elected officials.
