The last day to request an absentee ballot is August 17, the day before the primary.

For people who choose to vote in person, the county's election centers will be observing measures designed to combat the COVID-19 pandemic.

It will likely be much later before final results from the Aug. 18 primary election are tabulated than has been the case in recent years.

The local trend is in line with a national increase in the number of voters choosing to cast absentee ballots.

Ballots that are not received by 7 p.m. on August 21 (primary election day) will not be counted.

Early voting will continue through August 20.

Absentee voting for the August Primary election starts July 6.
