WYDOT officials say they are facing a yearly budget shortfall of $245 million per year.

The bill has the support of the Wyoming Department of Transportation as well as some industry groups, such as the Wyoming Trucking Association. and the Wyoming Association of Municipalities.

A fiscal note attached to the legislation estimates the tax hike would raise roughly $40 million per year for the state highway fund.

The fuel tax and salary increase are only a couple of the high-profile bills that have failed to win introduction so far.
