Cheyenne Mayor Patrick Collins in his "Mayoral Minute" column on Friday said property crime in Cheyenne is reaching "tragic levels."

The post says six stolen vehicles were reported to the agency between February 25 and April 21.

Police say Pedro Ortiz went on a four-day crime spree in December of 2020.

According to the post, the incident started when a West Fort Collins resident reported last week that her car had been stolen.

In an effort to stem the rising tide of auto thefts the sheriff's office is asking people not to leave the keys in their cars or leave vehicles running unattended.

Police say the driver, later identified as 35-year-old Anthony Gello of Cheyenne, drove recklessly, at times going into oncoming traffic.

Besides the auto theft charges, he's wanted for criminal impersonation as well as drug possession and paraphernalia charges.

According to the post, three stolen vehicles were reported in a 24 hour period before Tuesday, and numerous auto burglaries also were reported.

A Colorado man suspected of stealing a vehicle has been taken to the hospital after being shot by police while wielding an AR-15.

An affidavit of probable cause states police were called to a car dealership in Casper on March 4 for a report that a vehicle was stolen from their lot.
