A bipartisan bill pending in Congress would ease the federal ban on marijuana.

The legislation would maintain some restrictions, such as banning the sale of non-medical marijuana to people under the age of 21.

But, if the proposal becomes law, it would give states the right to decide how to handle marijuana within their own borders. About 30 states have legalized pot in some form, creating a conflict between state and federal law on weed in many cases.

President Donald Trump has said he would "probably" support the measure, according to the Associated Press and other media reports.

The move towards easing restrictions on pot appeared to get another boost a few days ago when the Texas Republican party voted to approve a resolution calling for the decriminalization of cannabis.

Current Wyoming law classifies possession of less than three ounces of pot as a misdemeanor punishable by up to a year in jail and a $1,000 fine. Possession of over three ounces is a felony, punishable by up to five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
