CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — Wyoming's U.S. Sens. Mike Enzi and John Barrasso are urging Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel to back away from a plan to study the possible elimination of intercontinental ballistic missiles silos.

In a letter to Hagel, the two Republicans and other senators called the Defense Department's plan premature.

They also note that legislation in both the Senate and the House of Representatives prohibits the department from moving forward on such an environmental study with fiscal year 2014 funds.

The senators also called on the Obama administration to consult with Congress before implementing changes in the latest strategic nuclear weapons treaty with Russia.

Wyoming is home to the F.E. Warren Air Force Base, which oversees ICBM silos in the region.
