Rep. Cheney: Expect More Action On Healthcare

Wyoming's lone representative in the U.S. House says Congress needs to do more on health insurance

Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) says what is left of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) will 'fall apart if we don't take action.''

She says that while the insurance mandate that was originally part of the ACA has now been eliminated, further changes are needed. While the house last year voted to repeal the ACA, the legislation failed to win approval in the Senate.

Cheney says that current health insurance costs ''are outrageous. People are going to have to choose between going bankrupt and having health insurance."

She says one positive development was announced on Thursday when the federal Department of Labor announced a rule change that will allow small businesses to pool together to buy health insurance.

But she notes that while the house has passed legislation to allow for the purchase of health insurance across state lines, the Senate has yet to do so.

Cheney says that Wyoming, which currently has only one insurer operating under the ACA, ''is being held hostage. You have to get competition."

Cheney made the remarks Friday morning on KGAB radio in Cheyenne.
