Memorial Day is here.

For many folks that means the unofficial start of summer, and summer activities.

What do you have planned?

Some national surveys say 44 million people will hit the roads this weekend, up about four percent from last year. Are you among that group?

Trips to Denver to see the Rockies play the red-hot Philadelphia Phillies at Coors Field are an option. Or maybe you will head east to see Mount Rushmore or go shopping and sightseeing in Salt Lake City. Or a visit to friends or family. The call of the open road offers a lot of choices this time of year.

Or maybe you plan a different type of road trip to enjoy the great outdoors in our beautiful state. Fishing, hiking, camping, photography, or just exploring the backcountry. Those are all options, and although some rain is possible this weekend, that doesn't mean we can't get out into nature with all that it has to offer in the Cowboy State. Summers are short in Wyoming, and three-day weekends are few.

For a lot of folks, Memorial Day means it's time to barbecue, and maybe have a few friends or neighbors over. Whether you prefer steaks, hamburgers, chicken, ribs, or something else, nothing says summer like a barbecue and maybe a cold beer or two.

With our recent rainy weather, you may have neglected your yard work or projects around the house. Maybe that is part of your holiday weekend?

While we are at it, let's not forget the reason for the holiday. Memorial Day commemorates those who have paid the ultimate price in defense of freedom. In Cheyenne, a wreath-laying ceremony is planned for Memorial Day at Beth El Cemetary, with a wreath laying at 10:30 a.m. and the ceremony getting underway at 11 a.m. Similar events are planned across the country.

Or maybe you are just going to relax and unwind this weekend, and take things as they happen?
