Online Poll: Do You Want Wyoming To Stop Changing The Clocks?
The twice-a-year ritual of changing the clocks is scheduled for this Sunday, November 3.
The Wyoming Legislature has considered a series of bills to try to do away with the time changes in the Cowboy State in recent years. While none has yet won final approval, a 2019 bill passed the Wyoming House and was defeated on a tie vote in the Senate.
That bill would have only taken effect if three surrounding states did the same.
There's been no word yet on whether a bill might come up in the 2020 Legislative session. Since 2020 is a budget session, it would require a 2/3 vote of lawmakers to consider a time change bill. But in view of the recent record of time change opponents to get a bill passed, it's certainly possible the effort will be made again.
Would you support such a bill?
Opponents of doing away with the time change say its a tradition that people generally like. They also argue that if Wyoming did away with the time change, it would be out-of-sync with other states. Some time change supporters also maintain that it "helps farmers."
Those who want to go to a single time year-round point to increased accident rates and even an increase in heart-attacks when the clocks change twice a year.
They also argue that it's an outdated custom that serves no useful purpose in the modern world, and that arguments that it saves any significant amount of energy or helps farmers are bogus.
So what do you think? We'll publish the results of our survey on Monday, Nov. 4th.
