Online Poll: 2018 Wyoming U.S. Senate Race
The 2018 Wyoming primary election is now less than two weeks away, and one of the more interesting state-wide races is the election for the U.S. Senate seat currently held by Casper physician John Barrasso.
Barrasso, who is a Republican, was first appointed to the Senate following the death of Senator Craig Thomas in 2007. Barrasso won a special election to fill out the remainder of what would have been Thomas's term in 2008 and was again re-elected to a full six-year term in 2012.
Among Barrasso's challengers in the August 21 primary election is Jackson businessman Dave Dodson, who bills himself as a "common sense Reagan Republican.'' While most political observers consider Barrasso to be a heavy favorite for re-election, Dodson's supporters say they have seen polls that give their candidate a real chance of pulling off an upset against Barrasso.
Several lesser-known candidates are also on the Republican primary election ballot.
The winner of the Republican primary will square off against Democrat Gary Trauner, a businessman from Wilson. Trauner almost defeated then-congresswoman Barbara Cubin in the race for the state's lone congressional seat in 2006, falling short by just over 1,000 votes. He didn't fare as well in a 2008 race for Congress, losing to Republican Cynthia Lummis by about ten percentage points.
So who do you plan to vote for in Wyoming's 2018 U.S. Senate race?
