Cheyenne eighth-grader Nathan Thornell has been named the Laramie County School District#1 Student of the Week for the week of November 11.

“Nathaniel excels in and out of the classroom in all he does,” Carey Junior High Assistant Principal Jessie Meyer said in a statement. “Most of all, he is an outstanding young man who is an excellent mentor to everyone.”

In announcing the recognition, LCSD#1 included these comments:

"He is new to Cheyenne, having moved from New Mexico this summer.

Thornell maintains high test and GVC assessment scores. He participates in Carey’s cross-country team and belongs to the Math Counts Club, Spelling Bee Club and Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

During a recent national Rubik’s Cube competition, Thornell ranked third fastest in the United States.

Members of the nominating committee said Thornell is an exceptionally bright student who is always respectful, engaged in each lesson and helpful to those around him. He embraces any group setting and is supportive and encouraging to all members of the group."
