Man Killed in Commercial Truck Crash on Interstate 80 Near Rawlins
An Idaho man was killed Monday night in a crash on an ice-covered portion of Interstate 80 in southern Wyoming.
Troy Walker, 43, of Burley, Idaho, died in the crash which occurred at 7 p.m. roughly 15 miles west of Rawlins.
Walker was driving a 2017 Volvo commercial truck eastbound on I-80 when the truck hit the trailer of a stopped commercial truck that had been involved in a prior crash at the same place, according to a news release from the Wyoming Highway Patrol.
After hitting the Peterbilt, the Volvo left the highway to the south and hit another commercial truck that had driven into the ditch.
Walker died at the scene, despite wearing his seat belt.
No one else was injured in the crash.
Troopers are investigating the potential that Walker was driving at a speed too fast for the highway conditions and following too closely as contributing factors in the crash.
Walker was the fifth person killed on Wyoming highways in 2017. The same time period in 2016 also saw five highway deaths statewide.
